New Children's Book Takes an Educational Trip to the Beach Kevin Rebello Shares Story of Little Girl and Her Stuffed-Animal Who Learn There's No Place Like Home NORTH MARTMOUTH, Mass. — Meet Julia Brooke, a charismatic little girl, and her larger-than-life stuffed animal, a dog named McKinley. Together, this dynamic duo will go on many adventures during their day at the beach and learn important lessons about the environment in Julia and McKinley's Day at the Beach (published by AuthorHouse), the illustrated new children's book by Kevin Rebello.
Julia Brooke and McKinley wake up bright and early on a summer day ready to go to the beach. After alerting her parents, she and McKinley gather up all the sandy essentials from her toy chest, including a rake, shovel, scoop, sifter, three different colored pails and a sandcastle mold. Her mother is also preparing for their trip to the beach by making Julie Brooke's favorite food: peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches.
When Julia Brooke and her family arrive at the beach, she wastes no time before making an apple pie patty with the sand for herself and McKinley. Afterwards, she and McKinley play in the water and Julia Brooke covers McKinley's body in the sand.
Next, they make a magnificent sandcastle and decide to put sea creatures inside. First, they capture Gil, a beautiful silver fish to live in the pool of water surrounding the castle. They also find Shelley, a blue and red hermit crab, and Squirt, a pink starfish, to live and play in the castle. Julia Brooke and McKinley delight in watching the sea creatures live and play in their castle, and Julia Brooke remarks that they could live there forever.
But soon Shelley grows hungry and even the peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches that Julia Brooke offers won't help. And before Julia Brooke and McKinley can do anything about Shelley's hunger, the tide goes out and Squirt begins to plea to be taken back to the ocean before she dries out, and there is a seagull flying overhead with his eye on poor Gil.
What will become of Julia Brooke's castle full of sea creatures? Find out in Julia and McKinley's Day at the Beach, a delightful children's book that entertains its readers while teaching a valuable lesson about respecting nature and the environment. Full of playful, full-color illustrations, Julia and McKinley's Day at the Beach is a delight for both readers and listeners alike.
Kevin Rebello is a hospital pharmacist from New England. He was inspired to write Julia and McKinley's Day at the Beach by his own two children.
